Status 6-17-15*

Yesterday

I’m combatting a small case of the blahs with learning things. I’ve had the Classroom in a Book series FOREVER, which I purchased long ago to learn my audio editing software better. Sigh. BUT, I have ended up always ‘just getting by’ with the minimum needed to do the show. I’m ‘TOO BUSY’ to apply myself to learning audio concepts and editing for real. Well, after being tempted to kill time with yet another rerun season of my binge TV of choice, Survivor, I decided to Survive MYSELF and USE time instead of kill it by starting the lessons in my book.

I also lately purchased the book, Phonetics For Dummies

It’s pretty cool and is teaching me HOW we make sounds in speech and how to document these with the International Phonetic Alphabet. Very useful for learning dialects and accents in voice acting AND for helping me learn how to better shape my mouth and place my tongue etc. to overcome my facial challenges from the bike accident. So I started reading this one too.

Then Mark and I recorded a new announcer bit for the show in our fancy new recording space. We are starting a BC Bravery Sports Report, where you can call in with your personal best celebrations, or tell when you try some new active thing. We’ll kick off with Dawny’s Half Marathon. Then just after, I interviewed Mark to answer a question for Dave. I think it will work out as a cute segment.

But I have to be honest, I think the summer blahs are getting a bit to me. I notice I’m eating more than before. Not bingeing, just more often than usual. Methinks boredom or anxiety is in the mix somewhere. Hence the learning projects.

Today

We’re off to the salon to get our hair done. And we have writing group tonight. I think it is SO cool how much Mark ended up loving this group, since he really started going too by accident when he drove me one day. Goes to show, trying new things can add joy to your life!

I’m writing a new episode for the podcast in drips and dabs. I just haven’t been as inspired lately. But I keep plugging away, so a new show WILL appear one of these days. Cheryl says it is just the season and the weather. I hope so, because between BCs taking a comment break, and ME being too dang hot, I’m starting to drift down the lazy river of ‘who cares?’, BUT I know this is just a mood and so I’m not paying it much mind – other than cutting myself slack so as not to turn the show into another chore to avoid. Hope YOUR summer days are filled with fun and rest BCs!

How about you?

Please feel free to comment on MY statuses or add YOUR OWN thoughts, feelings, challenges, rants and raves on these pages too. That was one of the original purposes of why I posted on FB. I thought BCs might like to share about THEIR days. So if you have thoughts and feelings you’d like to share with the group, go ahead and put them here with your comments.

*Daily statuses are not part of the blog’s email notification. When you enter your email under where it says SUBSCRIBE TO POSTS VIA EMAIL, you will be notified of regular blog posts and when podcast episodes are released. I didn’t want to clog your inbox with my daily statuses. However, the automatic publicize feature will inform you on my show FB page, my AdventureLaurie twitter account, google+ on its show page, and Tumblr.

PS If you wish to sign up for email notification of blog postings and shows going live (not these status reports) enter your email where it says: “SUBSCRIBE TO POSTS VIA EMAIL”. This blog subscription widget is located to the right on computers and on some tablets, and below the posts on smart phones and on other types of tablets.

PSS, some BCs have asked me the difference between blog postings and status pages. Blog postings are where I develop a complete topic triggered by my status thoughts. Status thoughts are how my day went, what’s on my agenda, and how my body feels today – and not much editing or thought goes into them. That’s why I don’t clog up your email with them. 🙂

Just came in to check on you. I hope your hair thing was as beautifying as can be. Hum… does that sound funny? I mean – I hope you both had a beauty blast ☺

I am on my way for a long walk and will listen to an audiobook. You gave me that idea, with Mark reading his poem from the public domain. There are a LOT of great classicals must-reads out there! So, in between COD podcasts, I’ll have something fill in

    Stéfanie xx 🙂

Haha, yes we are beautified! It must be synchronicity because I’m watching a funny movie in French, with English subtitles and thinking Stéfanie might like this one! It’s called Barbecue about a 50 year old man who has eaten right and exercised all of his life who has a heart attack and then decides to live life to the full. It’s also about a group of friends on vacation. So besides enjoying the movie, I’m enjoying the countryside. Hmmm, maybe I should try and learn a little French? I always assumed the accent would be too hard for me to learn, but then I thought I couldn’t sing a note either! Hmmm, I’ll pay more attention to the subtitles to see what I can learn. Much of my German language skill came from watching German soap operas! HAhahaha xoxoxox

Edited after watching: Not the BEST French film I’ve ever seen, but enjoyable. I only learned one new phrase though, frites maison! Typical, there is beautiful countryside, friendship, drama, and my laser focus goes to the fries – though I guess I DID learn home as well. LOL

    Hi Laurie and BCs.
I haven’t done a very good job of getting on and sharing my status much, have I? Well, I have been busy and I am doing well. I had class a couple of days this week. The first day I left myself two hours to get there through rush hour traffic. It took an hour and a half, but was so stressful, I just hated it! So, the second day I left super early, got there in half the time, and went for a long walk. I still had time after that to relax a bit before class. Much better way to start my day! I’ve been catching up on cleaning at home, gardening, sewing, and spending time with family. I have NOT been lazy, although I have relaxed some. So….I feel like I am doing really well.

I’m reading a book called “You are not your brain”. I heard about it on the Recovery Warriors podcast. I feel like this could be just what I need at this point in my journey. So far it is helping me to identify faulty brain messages. Next is to figure out what to do once I’ve identified them, but even the simple act of noticing and acknowledging is helping a little. For example, I was just at Subway to get lunch. I was good and hungry, and my brain started telling me “You want more than just a sandwich. You never get to feel good and full anymore. Don’t you miss that nice full feeling?” I was able to tell myself, “These are faulty brain messages. I am often good and full, but I DON’T miss being stuffed and feeling sick.” After I ate just my sandwich, I noticed that I did, in fact, feel nice and full! So, I’ll keep reading and let you know what I think as I go on….

I beautified my feet with a lovely pedicure this morning. Wow, that felt great! I hope your beautiful day continues…

It’s cool to hear about your ‘brain rewiring’ experiences Amy. I hear ALL of the time, that BCs might know what’s under the urge, but then have a hard time figuring out how to change it. Hooray for feeling how much food would make your body satisfied – sometimes the brain just doesn’t play nice. It’s great to hear you are having success encouraging the two to get along/ No worries about having to post everyday. These days, *I* don’t even do it. In fact, it was the topic of therapy yesterday. I’m just not pushing myself as I used to. Guess what? It’s part of me being better. Besides food, ambition, hurry, the pressure to jump RIGHT NOW were all distracting mechanisms. Allowing ourselves to actually relax and not be crazy over undone, late, or other todos that we put on ourselves is actually progress. Since I’m being much more Zen in my thoughts these days, my little “MUST DO” lists aren’t as powerful. I was scared I was lazy, but I guess I’m just resting. And it sounds like you may be doing the same. Hugs for a great Summer of Amy! xoxoxoxoxo

    Hey Laurie,

I check the blog on a daily basis, and I’m looking forward to the next pod cast, but I also know you have lots going on, so do Kathy and I, our garden is growing like crazy. I have lost 12.6 lbs since May 13, using only mindful eating, plus between COD and PnP and my therapist I’m slowly subduing the Robot Aliens.

I can relate to “I have ended up always ‘just getting by’ with the minimum needed to do” I am the same way, I also have 100’s of links to websites that tell me how do do it better. My drawing is a good example, I have 3 or 4 books on Learning to draw, links to youtube pages on the subject and links to web pages.

My mom is a quilter and struggles with the blahs too, she told me how she made a list of things she could do but it is NOT a to do list, so when she gets into one of those moods she picks something off the list and does it. In her case it is usually one of a hundred unfinished quilting projects. That way she feels more productive than binge watching the Voice, and because it is not a to do list she does not get stressed about it not being completed.

I have been trying to make a list like that, but struggle to get over the blahs to make an antiblah lists (I think I invented a new word LOL) Bummer I just googled it and it is not new. They even have Anti-Blah- Blah Meetings

I also tried working out at the gym……I was there for about 45, did not feel like I got a “good” (read perfect) work out in although I was exhausted, and 3 days later I can barely use my left arm. I will try again this weekend.

Well I’m off to love Kathy and hit the garden.

Remember we don’t have do to it perfectly, we just have to do something.

HI Dave and Kathy! Should be great gardening weather right now for you! It’s a bit hot here. Read my reply to Amy from WI and you will see the surprising result from yesterday’s therapy. I’m not lazy, I’m mindful! LOL. Today I’m doing gentle chores while waiting for my new mic (my first professional quality one). I’m excited AND nervous. And all FedEx will say is it will arrive today between 8 am and 7 pm. Not wanting this package to sit on my doorstep, I’m kind of tied here until it’s delivered. And IMHO you DID make up Anti-blah, it’s just also been made up before 😉 Thanks for letting me know you do check in most days, that’s encouraging! xoxoxoxox
