BOO HOO! Most of bike ride was fantastic and my body energy and feeling of satisfaction was around 8-9. Then just as I was making the right turn to exit the bike path at the end of our ride, a hit and run bike rider buzzed me from the left and I slammed my chest into my handle bars and went down hard on my left knee. I was gasping like a fish and thought I might have hurt my heart or lung. Many kind riders (Except the A-hole) stopped to help. Just home from ER. Bruised ribs only, not broken Yay! Left knee likewise cut and bruised but no lasting damage. Pissed we won’t see the movie today, but grateful I’m in decent shape. X-ray tech asked, as usual, if pregnant, I laughed and said thanks for even asking as I’m 55, he said, “you might 55, but you look in top shape to me!” So even if kind BS, I’ll take it. The other thing of note, as I thought I might die from heart failure, I told Mark I love you, said I forgive someone I need to forgive, and said Damn, I didn’t get Day 65 posted, so Jenny and the others will never know the story I’ve been waiting to tell. So while I’m housebound right now for a few days, my top priority will be getting that show published! Please give it a listen and post comments for my amusement. Love you guys! I’m happy to live to record another day

Good grief! Maybe bikes should be required to have license plates so you could get one when these guys do this stuff. Glad you’re ok. Gonna be sore for a bit, I bet. Blows to the lungs and chest areas like that can cause pneumonia, so beware.

What movie were you going to see?

And yes, we take all the bs we can get when it comes to compliments. Like when you get carded when you order a drink. Love it!

The movie is an indie flick called Land Ho! It looks so funny, I bet you would like it too. Two old guys have a road trip/ adventure to Iceland after one of them is widowed and his friend wants to cheer him. Trailer was so sweet and funny. Mark was even going with me as a “date”. I hope it sticks around long enough to see on the big screen a few days from now. Scenery is amazing. Sometimes indies come and go quickly. The Dr. Is making me take deep breaths every hour no matter how much it hurts, probably you’ve nailed the reason. Well whopping big TV and me are going to be best buds today. Watching old seasons of Rome.

Glad you are okay. Not every one gets to walk out of the ER after a bike vs bike (what we called it in the trauma hospital…), so I’m happy for you. Rest up, take time to heal up and take it easy.

Here’s to fast healing and no side effects.

Thanks Karen! The ER staff was great and all wanted to know how my bike was. It takes special folk to work in trauma. What did you do there? For me, right now I’m taking it easy like a “good girl” even though I’m usually a terrible patient. I’m happy it wasn’t worse and looking forward to getting right back to riding as soon as I can. Thanks for the good wishes it really helps! PS, they could tell what kind of bike I ride from the bruise. Guess they see this stuff a lot,

    Hi Laurie,

Now’s as good a time as any to say ‘hello (from Canada)’. Been meaning to post a comment and let you know I am downloading and listening. I am sorry you got injured but glad it was no worse. I haven’t yet gone to adventure tales to find out about your original big bike disaster/injury but I will get there. I found you through your interview with Alen Standish and in turn I found him through Garden Girl’s blog. I don’t remember how I found her πŸ™‚ Lots more I could say but kinda shy at sharing (for now). I do enjoy your blog and your pod casts. I admire your honesty, your insight into this ‘condition’ (compulsive overeating/binge eating) and the fact that you have stuck with it despite feeling all alone in the beginning. I will post again I am sure but for the moment I am lurking in the background, not brave enough yet to be a true Brave Companion. Feel better soon, I would send you a big hug but scared it would hurt you too much right now.

Hello and Welcome Isabel! I’m delighted to hear from another brave companion from Canada. And you ARE a brave companion as you are listening, learning, and thinking about your issues. AND you are even brave enough to post in public here to wish me well. Thanks too for telling me how you found this podcast and blog. Isn’t it cool how, as you say, I felt alone and the whole world came along? I’m very glad to have met Karen and Alen and appreciate their generosity in sharing what I have to say. And I’m especially glad to meet you today. I’ll look forward to hearing more of your own thoughts and feelings when you are ready. Until then, take care and remember, from now on you are brave companion Isabel! xoxoxoxo

Laurie, I supported the trauma dept in a large hospital in the Mid-West. I did my MT (ASCP) , Medical Technology degree there. My first job was night shift in a Hematology lab. I got a great education and key learnings.. many from the ER department!

Ah! True professionals if they could ID the bike type from the bruises. Here’s to healing well. And to eating real foods and resting which also aids you in your other goals. So glad you are okay.. πŸ™‚

Hi Karen, that’s pretty darn cool. I thank you for your service because good medical care is such a blessing! It sounds like you’ve always had an investigative mind. Thanks again for stopping by, I’m feeling better today – still sore, but can breathe deeply without much pain, so I’m pumped! I think a few days from now, I’ll be pretty good to go. πŸ™‚
