Podcast Recap

As rebel Laurie, I learn a ton about myself as I share a story about a crummy cat-chore I assigned to myself and how it triggered overeating. Also, emails from brave companions Kendra and Stefano, and highlighted features from compulsiveovereatingdiary.com

    Hey Laurie,
It sounds like Marks lack of skills is earning him a lot of free time lately 🙂 it’s too bad you’re so skilled and have to keep saving the day.
Next time use my mantra (from my spark people account) “Don’t reward yourself with food, you’re not a dog”
Also, it’s very cute that you still have CD’s.

Hiya Abby! Funny, now you mention it, my control gene IS kind of creating the extra work I’m gripping about. And, you must be a youngster if you think it’s cute I have CDs hehe. I remember when LP vinyl was the thing, and still miss going to the record store. The album art was amazing. Downloading and streaming is convenient, but sometimes technology isn’t as cool as the old ‘Real Life’ version. Here’s a factoid. I spent my very first full-time paycheck on a turntable stereo system and a copy of Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. Wore that record out and had to buy a second, eventually. I do like your mantra, it goes with my reminder that I’m also not a garbage can – few extra crumbs in the chip bag? Toss them, don’t eat them 🙂

    Lorie,

I really like the resource of the day you posted on day 34. “Eating in the Light of the Moon” was one of the most inspiring and helpful books I’ve read. There are a lot of different types of self-help and eating disorder books out there and this one is by far one of my favorites. It views our relationship with food in a way that resonates with so much of my struggles in being comfortable as a woman and the high standards our culture places on women. I’m sure many of the female as well as male listeners would appreciate this book and I would highly recommend it.

I have a cat like that! LOL Gotta say, making myself go through that little chore would have been enough to cause me to drag out the hats, noise makers, etc. to have a great pity party. And you know what happens with that! There’s ALWAYS refreshments. Or at least cake and ice cream. So I hear ya…

Yep, that wasn’t my fav day 😉 But Mark and *I* are STILL burning dang CDs. How many friggin’ CDs can I have bought? Oh my Lordy, I am awash in CDs. Glad you all are hanging out at Sparkpeople, because at LEAST that motivates me to go there and check out how much I’ve eaten. Helps me rein in the pity snack attacks.

I too struggle when people put expectations on me and my first thought is to binge and I usually do, that why I don’t find personal trainers nor diet coaches useful.

You were aware of your binge and the causes this time and that is always a victory.

You happened to mention the Phantom of the Opera and that is one of my top 5 favorite musicals. In fact I just watched them perform it at the Royal Albert Hall on Netflix. In fact it would be a dream if I could see it live and it would be awesome if I could learn to sign the Phantoms part.

    Top 5 Musicals
    Grease
    Phantom of the Opera
    Evita
    Cats
    The Rocky Horror Picture Show

    What are your top 5?

I LOVE that Royal Albert Hall version on Netflix -especially the end with all of the Phantoms and Christines giving their good wishes. Mark and I saw Sarah Brightman in concert last year and it was thrilling to hear her sing Music of the Night live.

Here are my top five musicals (as of today)

      1. Phantom of the Opera
      2. Beauty and the Beast
      3. Camelot
      4. Kinky Boots
      5. Jersey Boys

I have listened to the sound tracks for many of your favorites. I just checked out the ticket price for PotO and that is a lot of $$$$$. I will have to set a stretch goal with that as a reward.

Did you know there is a sequel to PotO. It is called Love never dies. Its pretty good but only has 1 or2 songs I really like, I love most of the sound track of PotO.

My dear, I will bust your budget by saying I would go to a good production of PotO at ANY PRICE (money-wise, wouldn’t give up my soul or first born or anything). I have heard of the sequel but just don’t know if I want to think about anything that changes my view of the original story. I LOVE the Phantom (and for the record, I would have been down in the cellar singing away with the bad-boy and forgetting RAUL, you pansy) But to lose the tragic sad ending, would change some of the story for me. I agree about the sequel’s music too. Doesn’t touch for me the original score. I love EVERY moment of it. In fact, the version I own is the complete Broadway version that has every note, not just the songs. Love it! Hooray, I had fun thinking about PotO today. Maybe later I will watch it again on Netflix. I don’t even know how many times I’ve seen it live, it’s been that many. AND it’s the next show we see at the Pantages. So small seats? phooey! Bring on the Music of the Night 🙂
