Podcast Recap

An email comment by new listener, Marie, triggers me to ponder the whole topic of being authentic and how that can impact our relationships. Shout-outs also go to Nancy, Sandy and Janet. I recommend a great podcast interview done by Alen Standish, of Quit Binge Eating, with Michelle Cleary that I listened to on my way up the trail. I remind the brave companions that my 20th anniversary is coming up and so the podcast will have a larger gap than usual before the next episode.

Laurie waving

Here I’m experimenting to see if I can email a “Hello” photo from the mountain top to new listener, Marie. Guess I was just in the mood for silly selfies today!

Laurie's legs crossed at the ankles showing only her hiking boots.

By mistake I took this photo of my boots, but kind of liked it!

A deer grazes on the trail

I surprised a deer on the trail. We spent several minutes just staring at each other until the deer decided I was trustworthy enough that she could go back to eating. A few moments later, she was joined by her mate. Pretty big up close.

Soooo sorry I didn’t listen to this last night when it popped up. His lordship and I had one of those impassable miscommunications last night and could have benefited from hearing this podcast, even though we’ve read the same advice in books and even heard it from a counselor. But whether he heard it or no, it was very timely for me today and will no doubt temper my frustration when he gets home from work tonight.

One other comment I thought was interesting from today’s podcast was that when we start talking to people about how we feel about something, we usually choose “safe” people like family rather than talking to strangers. I was caught off guard. I am SO totally the opposite of that. I guess I feel safer voices my opinion to people who have no personal stake in what I say. In retrospect, I think that makes me feel very sad…

Interesting Cheryl, I hope things get better for you. I need to try and put a lot of those things into practice too, especially over my expectations of family members doing things to my timescales in in my way.

Concerning your second paragraph, I can be like that too. I think it might have something to do with not worrying as much about the reactions to our feelings. If I think my feelings have been discounted after I have been brave enough to share with someone close I am less likely to do it again soon.

That’s it in a nutshell, Sue. Sometimes I think there’s a lot to that old saying familiarity breeds contempt. How many times have my family members seen me start to loose then loose the battle again. I think they have a hard time believing in me and encouraging me.

Wow, so much to think about in these last two podcasts. It seems like many comments made by Laurie and others in their responses are acting like mirrors for me. So much to think about and process! I hope that Laurie has a wonderful time away and that we, the brave companions, are able to continue to support each other through whichever channel we use. Let’s step up to the challenge, folks, and keep the good work going. I’m sure that interaction, without Laurie having to be the centre of it, would bless her and encourage her that what she is doing to bless us is worthwhile and making a difference.

Laurie! I couldn’t find a general comment box so thought I would drop this here! I discovered your podcasts on the radio last night and am currently listening to Day 5! So somewhat behind but I am riveted. I feel as though you have looked into my soul and I find myself smiling and nodding along regularly! I began to ‘eat clean’ this past Monday – I went to do my grocery shopping earlier today, I listen to Day 3 before I entered the shop. With your words ringing in my ears I sailed by all temptation and stuck to my list, I only bought nourishing things. I’m 22 this year and feel I really need to nip my weight gain in the bud! I’m 207lbs at 5’5” and it’s having a detrimental effect upon my health and general happiness. I don’t want to keep climbing the mountain only to slide back down again. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your story, your thoughts and feelings. Your honesty and bravery is extremely heartening and inspiring to me. I reckon this is the start of big things for me and I cannot thank you enough. From your new listener all the way in County Tipperary, Ireland!

That’s totally awesome that you’re all fired up now, Heather. You have a lot of us climbing up the mountain with you, so be sure to shout out if you need a shove along the way. We’d be glad to have you shove right back! And WELCOME, btw!

Lovely to have you drop by Heather. We feel the same way and there are many times when what Laurie says and others comment on here that makes me feel – oh that’s just how I am too! Don’t worry about posting in the comment box for the episode that you have just been listening to. Many like to start the podcasts from Day 1. Laurie would normally respond very quickly, but she is away at the moment. Hopefully some others of us will spot a new post in another section from the posting feed. I’m from this side of the “pond” too. Good for you to have the determination to sort things out now. Bravo! We are here to help encourage you on your journey. Oh, before I forget, there is a link on each day that refers to more stories; this gives you other ways to network with Laurie and others. 🙂

Hi Heather, I’m thrilled to welcome a new brave companion from Ireland. I was away celebrating my wedding anniversary, so remained offline for once. I’m so glad Sue and Cheryl were online and gave you the warm welcome you deserve. 🙂 I thought of you today as I went shopping at Trader Joes, and I stuck to MY list too (even though there were some tempting chocolates about the place). We are also weight twins as I’m now about 207, 18 pounds down since I began the show. Slow but steady wins the race! I just gave you a shout-out in episode 43, so you can skip ahead, or wait until you catch up to hear it. But welcome, and I hope you will visit as much as you like! You might also like to post on our “Who are the brave companions” page to let others also know your better.

Hi Sunshine, Wow! Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. I’m so happy you like my voice, as I am a bit self-conscious about it since my bike accident. 🙂 I hope you will come back to post if you need encouragement or just to get to know us all. I’m very happy you took the time to stop by.

Hi Sunshine, it’s good that you have started listening to these wonderful podcasts. Don’t worry about posting your comments in the relevant section for the podcast you are responding to as Laurie will still get them and other listeners will see them too. We agree that these talks are so interesting and genuine. We look forward to hearing more from you,

Hi Marie, Wow, you are really catching up quick! I’m so pleased you stopped by here to comment, because this episode that your original email inspired is one of my favorites and is one of the most discussed episodes so far! I’m also glad to know you actually got the photo. It must have been fate, because I’ve never had phone coverage from that spot ever since. 🙂
