Podcast Recap

Procrastination can delay more than your chores. It can put your entire life on hold and kill your dreams. Corinna, from the live YMCA support group, is on the bravery report for recording her thoughts after our first meeting. The YMCA group will continue on and we have an actual bravery report now! We also have a show audio archive again. Featured comments by Rachel about perfectionism, Amy from Australia about my weight photos, Suz about supporting Amy from WI and me, Cheryl about knowing when to give up an activity without guilt, and Sue from the U.K. about the value of persistence. I share my latest singing adventure as well as my voice acting report card results.

Welcome Corinna. So glad for your bravery and sharing yourself with us! This is a GREAT place for support, encouragement and non-judging understanding. I have to admit a bit of jealousy tho, that you live in the area and get to attend the live support group with the awesome Laurie Weaver. Lol.

You know, Laurie, I believe the voice acting lessons have helped you with your podcast. There’s a new focus and relevancy that has spilled over into it from your practicing things like we heard on the last episode. What a gift!

Just want to say to Corinna (have always LOVED that name, btw) that she’s absolutely right about her willingness to be vulnerable and honest with her feelings helping others besides herself. I think we’ve all experienced that with the podcast, and little by little are taking baby steps to health. We’re so glad to have you with us, Corinna. I hope you’ll jump on here if you can and let us get to know you. You certainly DID deserve to be on the Bravery Report!

Rachel, I so get that “If I can’t get it perfect then I can’t start” comment. It’s like a noose around my neck so much of the time. One of my worst triggers, and I’m struggling to overcome it. It’s kept me from writing for so long. It’s helped a lot to remind myself that I’m not a professional at writing, and even professionals never stop learning, so I really appreciated your coach’s comment: Don’t get it right, get it written. Great stuff!

Suz, for Halloween I was wondering about stuff from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Night On Bald Mountain, maybe? And my son suggested Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.

And Laurie, I loved your response to Sue’s comment. “I wonder what we have ALL assume wrongly?” It’s like the spaghetti sauce commercial where the gal realizes she’s chosen the wrong one on the taste test and then wonders what ELSE she been wrong about in her life. Your comment just put this picture in my mind of all the forks (literally? LOLOL) we come to in our lives and how many other scenarios we missed out on by our choosing. It would make a GREAT scifi novel!

Lastly, I put myself on your new bravery report today for being brave enough to start putting my book manuscript out there for comments! Thank you for continually pushing me along in that direction, Laurie! If that thing gets turned into an ebook it will be partly your fault! Hugs!

      Cheryl,
Great suggestions! Perhaps a bit beyond my ability to find and learn in a timely manner, though! But thanks for the vote of confidence. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to play a real Bach fugue! It feels like you need 2 brains and 4 hands. And The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is great but is for orchestra, and not sure I’ve ever seen a transcription for piano.
But I will be trying a fugue arrangement of a Lady Gaga song! Hopefully when I get my new router set up, my wifi will be working again and I can get it recorded on SpeakPipe.
If all else fails, there’s always the Monster Mash. Haha.

I’m just happy you’re going to send me some more of your awesome playing Suz! I’m like a little kid on Christmas when I see those audio files come through. 🙂

Cheryl, how about you? Care to write a spooky story? Mark wrote a cute campfire story last year for the Halloween episode and I read a “poem” I found on the internet in a spooky voice. The rest was all sound effects and polish. 😉

    Corinna!
    Welcome, welcome, welcome!
I am SO glad you are here! And wow, was I impressed to hear that you were wanting to leave a voice message immediately after your first meeting with Laurie’s group. That was so brave!! And isn’t Laurie a peach? She has helped so many of us in the podcast audience. I hope you get time to listen to some of the podcasts and browse around on this site so you can get familiar with other listeners and topics we’ve been thinking about.
I’ve struggled with food issues for as long as I can remember, and this is probably the first place I’ve felt understood, supported, and free to talk about the issue without fear or being shamed or shunned or mocked, etc., like seems to sometimes happen in the “outside” world.
I hope you will find a welcoming place here and will continue to share your thoughts with all of us, whether you’re having a good day or not. There are so many wonderful people here who really and truly understand the struggle, inside and out.
And your kind heart was on display when you considered that sharing your own thoughts could help more than just yourself. You are so right! And it’s a mark of a sensitive, caring person that it occurred to you.
I look forward to hearing more from you, and I wish you all the best!

I have been a little “off the grid” lately, but still reading and listening at this wonderful website. Welcome to all the new BC’s. Laurie, your ‘experiment’ is indeed a success!

I was excited to hear you talk about procrastination and read the Tiny Buddha article. Tiny Buddha has been a great resource for me over the past few years. As for procrastination, well, I am a self fulfilling prophecy. My mother used to say to me often that I was a procrastinator, and what did I become?? Making lists help on some days, but other days I ignore the list and distract (procrastinate LOL!). Today, I decided that having a rather large food binge was how i would distract myself from the underlying anxiety I felt…about my “to do” list. Sigh…

Hugs, Hugs, Hugs, dear Marquita! I think there’s something in the air these last few weeks, many of us have struggled a bit. BUT the good news is that we can take a long view and overcome these bumps in the road. Love Tiny Buddha too, and super enjoyed the procrastination article. btw, food binge/anxiety distraction, one of my golden oldie techniques. Sometimes we are so tired we just reach for what we know. I’ve found the best thing, is as you have done, just acknowledge it and move ahead in the most positive way as you can. Regret, for me, just fuels the fire and puts me further back. Hang in there, and put some good stuff on your list!xoxoxoxoxoxox

    HELLO BC!!!

Welcome to Corrina!! I hope you find this a to be a place where you feel comfortable and welcome!

Laurie, I am still listening. I don’t seem to have much time to comment and a lot of times don’t feel that I have much to say. But I know you always wonder when brave companions disappear and I wanted you to know that I was still around!

Hi Diane, Thanks so much for popping in. It’s great to “See you” here. Boy, I surely do understand how busy we all get. This next show on Day 84, I talk ALL about the things I needed to let go of in order to spend time focusing on priorities, so I feel you! It makes me doubly happy to hear that you are still listening as your call to the bravery hotline was one of the bravest I’ve heard, and I think of you often. Hugs, Hugs, Hugs!

Laurie – I am getting there – and enjoying hearing the BC family grow – not sure what I will find nearly 3 years later … but loving the journey
Catching up and so many BC stories are ringing true, I am a procrastinator and have been all my life. I am also at the moment struggling with getting the balance right between allowing myself to eat what I truly want and overeating in a big way. I am having some health issues and as a result food truly is a comfort and I need to nip it in the bud. I have meant I am achieving nothing of any consequence and am avoiding doing things I know I should be doing – causing some serious foraging! But I am not punishing myself and I am very very aware of what I am eating and pretty sure of the why too
I am giving myself a break, and one positive is that I recently started running again and have been enjoying it, whereas previously I absolutely hated it. But by having no expectations of distance, speed or time I have found my inner bully is ignored – one step forward and loving that for now 🙂

Hi Jo, I’m glad you’re having fun walking through the shows of the past! It is always an interesting balance to find the sweet spot between too much, enough and restriction. It’s taken me a couple of years, though at this point I’m pretty good at feeling my physical hunger and allowing for “social hunger” as well. I never quibble about food that’s at parties etc. I just eat a little, or pass, depending on my mood and feelings of wanting to eat or not. I’m kind of lucky that I naturally do not get hungry at night, when most of my social events live. That’s because my natural pattern is to be awake and wanting fuel so early in the day. By 6:00 or 7:00 at night, I’m done, physically. So I never eat unless it is something spectacular! And if I do, I know I have some emotional figuring to do. Hooray for cutting yourself slack and giving yourself space to figure things out. I’d give you some tips for overcoming procrastination, but I can do that tomorrow 😉 xoxoxox
