Laurie in her colorful jacket and podcaster shirt.

It’s funny that I’m wearing my podcaster shirt on the day where I forgo defining myself that way.

Path on the mountains on a blue sky sunny day.

A beautiful view on a sunny day. It makes me appreciate how lucky I am to make this physical and emotional journey.

Laurie's lunch plate

What I was hungry for after hiking on day 99. It’s Punjab choley with greens and guac on brown rice tortilla with pink lady apples. I’m not on a diet, nor am I a vegan. But when I listen to my body, this kind of food is often what it wants

Thanks Laurie, was great insight today, Im defined as the ‘weight watcher that lost 260.2#’ so what happened, when Ive re-gained some of that, and im no longer her.. I live in a mistaken identity?!?!!? eeeeek..

your voice acting stuff is so fun!!! Im glad you have that, and have found something to entertain your desire for pursuing something, and it seems a great group of people

I some-how missed Mark’s post on your blogging, so Im VERY thankful you discussed that! WOW what wonderful insight, and an AWESOME husband you have!!!

Your so endearing when you reflect on life and weight and loss/gain, I love the perspective you share regarding your weight/size vs when you started the show, and the ‘oh well’ that comes with it

I’m glad you like that POV change there Dawny. I went though similar when I put on weight after being a WW who lost big. But you know, we both DID lose our whoppin’ amounts by diet and exercise. That is an amazing experience. If you look at it that way and say, ‘I’m Dawny who experienced the grit and determination to succeed in taking off 260.2 pounds’, then you can NEVER take that away whatever the scale says – and then you can use that same grit and determination to follow any goal and to feel good about your process and what it showed about you. It is very tricky to maintain significant weightloss and YOU have maintained MOST of it! Wow! You haven’t given up, you are learning, and that’s what day 99 was about for me. We should not beat ourselves for not being an attribute. We should celebrate what we’ve learned and apply that to new goals, dreams and adventures. xoxoxoxoxox

Good points.. I have to look at the fact that I may have LOST 260.2#, and was at my lowest weight 4.2012, but today im STILL down 224.6# from my heaviest weight, and that was July 24 2004… so there’s that! yes.. ive successfully kept off 224.6# for almost 3 years after reaching ‘goal’ sweet! LOL.. and i only need to get down 20# to be at an acceptable weight for some, 10# for others.. but the REAL question.. is.. me.. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I like my life, and style.. I do know I felt a lot ‘better’ physically/mentally etc about 10# ago LOL which is ‘others’ being my dr. feelings of ‘success’ for me..

Yep, the most important fact is where do you actually FEEL GOOD in your body? Cover up the scale – don’t stop what you’re doing to lose, but pay attention to how you feel. A number will change every single day. I am currently heavier than my body likes. AND I can tell that, by how it feels to move and by how much food it asks me for. It’s on the REALLY LAURIE? track. BUT my body feels great at a much higher number than most BMI or weight recommendations would list. So, I’ll see what I weigh when I feel I am feeling great. That day I’ll step on the scale, just for my info to know, what weight my body likes.

Hi Laurie! Thank you so much for giving me a shout-out and creating such a warm welcome to your story as well as the community you have created here.

Defining yourself by one thing is a tough nut to crack for sure. 5 years ago I was on reality television show (on MTV) that dealt with weight loss. After it aired all of my family and friends suddenly knew every intimate detail about my weight loss, food issues, and dieting. I not only defined my life in regards to my weight and weight-loss but suddenly everyone else seemed to as well. It has taken years to even start coming out of that label as *that weight loss guy* – Something I still struggle with today.

Also, big props to Amy from Wisconsin! Not letting something like a Dr.’s visit throw you into a spiral sounds simple enough but anyone who has dealt with compulsive-overeating knows just how difficult that really is. Way to go!

Thanks again for all the warmth! – A

I know what you mean Adam. I had family members I avoided phone calls from because it was never about me. Or how I was doing/feeling it was about my weight status. Same with all my ‘friends’ we were GREAT friends when they were on a weight loss adventure. Typically Weight Watchers. But if they weren’t or they tried a diff avenue they avoided me like the plague. Ugh. People. Lol

You are certainly welcome Adam, I’m so pleased you have found our community and I hope we can support each other. You for sure have experiences that are unique and add a great perspective to the mix.

Wow, that is rough, in my mind, to have been on reality TV. Because not much is real there, and yet, because it is TV, people take it as such. I can’t imagine how that would feel to have your entire life distilled into what was seen there. In a small way, I relate as well. When I lost a large amount of weight at my local WW, I was a bit of a local celebrity for it. It was thrilling and objectifying. I was happy to have positive attention, but pissed at the same time. Why was I not good enough before? I definitely had mixed emotions. And when I put some of the weight back on, it was terrible to see the disappointment in the faces of people. But, as I said, I’m projecting my experience onto your experience, and I’ll have to trust you to tell me, how that felt for you. My podcast is also very revealing, but I also have control over what is actually revealed, which gives me some bravery. When I was on my friend, Alen’s show, it was REALLY hard to trust and let him edit our conversation. But since I know he’s a genuine, caring guy who would not make me look bad on purpose, I used that experience as a way to let go. I’m very interested to see where your latest steps take you, and how your journal impacts your latest journey.
