  • Ep 0117 – Lists Aint No Boss of Me!
It's been more weeks then usual since I hiked up the mountain to my next to upper Zen spot and recorded a show for you. It's partly because I'm learning to let things go a little more, partly my busy life and partly the dang heat that's been knocking me for a loop here in Southern CA. A BIG thank you to all of the active Amazon shoppers in all three countries where I have links that support the show. I ask for prayers and positive thoughts for Mark's special relative. I let go of mindless, automatic eating. We hear from a couple of BCs we haven't heard from in a while, Helen from the UK and Jo, who is originally from the UK, but who now lives and works in Asia. I read a blog post I wrote about letting things go called 'Baby Steps out of a List Slump'. We hear Dawny's reaction to our last show in her own words via Speakpipe. More comment reactions from Fionna, our talented songwriter, Stéfanie from Quebec and Dave, who asks Mark a question. We initiate a brand new feature called the BC Bravery Sports Report. Dawny tells what wogging her half marathon felt like. Mark answers BC Dave's question. A sound sample from my new big girl mic in my newly completed recording space. It's a poem I wrote titled, 'I thought I was hungry'. I list ways I know if I'm hungry or not.
  • Ep 0116 – Gratitude Dang It!
It's early morning on the mountain and already HOT AS BLAZES. I let go of thinking about my body every 6 seconds and replace that with gratitude. This month's iTunes 5-star review writers and some of their reviews. Smooches for each. Also thanks to Canadian and UK Amazon shoppers. We hear from Shea, Dave and Dawny with comments about day 115. Dawny goes on the bravery report for completing a half-marathon! Mark reads his favorite poem, If by Rudyard Kipling. Our resident BC Songwriter extraordinaire, Fionna Lane, shares one of her latest songs, Maybe, and the inspiration behind it. We catch up with Amy from WI and talk about posting statuses. Then we flip the format and welcome our newest BC Charm at the end of the show, because she teaches me something about gratitude. We send heartfelt well wishes to a person in Charm's life.
  • Ep 0115 – Fear of Criticism Get Outta Here!
I ponder criticism's impact on risk and going for our dreams. Thank you to new BC Char, who posted a 5-star review on USA iTunes. BCs have been asking 'Where’s Alen?' Find out from a clip from Alen Standish's and my third interview. Welcome to Char and to other new BCs, including Shelly B. and BC X - who shares a wonderful email, but wants to remain anonymous. Comment conversations from day 114 featuring Dawny, Dave, Myself, eM and Mark. Why is it Mark shrugs off our compliments? Dave’s wife, Kathleen, goes on the bravery report for sharing some foolish fun for the first time and Dawny shares a very funny pair of jokes. I practice voice acting by reading you one of my latest blog posts which includes a dialog between myself and one of my pesky inner voices - Tantrum Laurie.
  • Ep 0114 – Joy and My Inner Fat Chick
I meet some brand new friends, Jessie and Nicole, along with their cute dogs on top of the mountain. I let go of my Inner Fat Chick Identity as I ponder creativity and its place in our world. Thank you to Dawny for posting a 5 star review on USA iTunes. Thanks also to Amazon shoppers and to coffee klatchers who subscribe and donate to the show monthly. Stéfanie from Quebec weighs in with her thoughts on day 113. Two wonderful and touching stories from two new brave BCs - Shea and eM. Mark and I launch another new feature - Laurie's Stories. I read a story of my own from last week's wild and wooly writing group that was inspired by the current fad, Cards Against Humanity. Triggered by a comment conversation with BC Dave on one of my status reports, I explore the idea of what it means to find joy.
  • Ep 0113 – Figuring Out Frustration and Stéfanie’s Secret Topic 7
Frustration is my target today. It's windy, it's crowded, and I have to park my good car in the rugged mountain hiking lot! Thank you to BC Dave for his 5-star review on USA iTunes and to tech guy Mikey, from Jetpack, who helped me solve the technical snafus I shared last time. We celebrate the Bravery of new BC, Shannon, who posts her story and asks for our thoughts on the 'Want Advice?' page. Dawny steps in to welcome Shannon as well as to give us a funny joke for Foolish Fun. We hear what's up with Amy from WI, Sue from the UK, Jill from the UK and Stéfanie from Quebec. BC Dave sends his list for things he does that add value to his life and his request for your list. Stéfanie sends her latest Secret Topic of the Day. Why do we do things we know aren't in our best interests? I sneak in some singing bravery of my own.

  • Ep 0111 – Embracing the Slog!
Risking some stormy weather I'm back up the mountain letting go of assuming things need to come easily to be part of my path, i.e., I learn to embrace the slog! Welcome new BC Rosemary from New York. Fionna's Brave Companion Song is now available as a standalone. A brand new feature where you call in with tips and tricks about food, fun or life. I start this feature with a tip I've learned recently from Michelle, a great blogger, who writes as the 'Fat Nutritionist'. BC Dave goes on the Bravery Report twice. Once for calling the bravery hotline and again for sharing his story on the Who Are the Brave Companions? page. A comment conversation with Happy, Carol from Detroit, Dawny and me about the list of areas where we deal with our perceived eating issues. Audio comments from Dawny celebrating María from Spain's bravery last show and Nola makes my day by sending in HER version of Foolish Fun.
  • The Brave Companion Song from Day 100
Now you can listen anytime you wish to the Brave Companion Song or download its file. I asked Fionna to write this song as a way to celebrate our bravery. This version of it was used as part of our big celebration show on Day 100. The 'Brave Companions' are the show's listeners and those who participate by commenting on the blog or who send in audio to be used in the show. BCs are a supportive audience of people all around the world, and luckily for us, Fionna is a BC too! This version was recorded with help from Fionna's sister, Annie.
  • Ep 0110 – Sicky Sick Sick – Or When Your BODY Wants Control!
After a terrible case of food poisoning or stomach flu, I let go of knowing what to expect from my body and assuming I know what it needs. I'll be on call again for jury duty next week (postponed due to my illness) and may not be online. Thank you to a new Coffee Klatcher for supporting the show with virtual coffee and to BC Sandy for recording our shared bonus show last week. We hear some of the comment reactions to that show from Cheryl, Dawny, Amy from WI and Sandy. Foolish Fun from Dawny. Participate in the show with different audio possibilities. We greet new BCs Allie from FB and Dave’s wife, Kathleen. An awesome new song recommendation for the Latin bilingual band, Moona Luna sent by BC Dave. María from a Spanish Speaking country goes on the bravery report for revealing just WHICH Spanish Speaking country she’s from. BC Happy reveals how she’s doing and what she thinks of Kathryn Hansen’s book, Brain Over Binge. My riff about hunger, binges, self awareness and all of the different attributes we juggle when finding tools and methods to help US find our own unique ways.
  • Ep 0109 – Bonus – First Podcast Duet With Sandy
For the first time ever, I record LIVE with a BC! Sandy and I walk down to the podcast rock at the local park and have a wonderful bonus discussion. We each let go of something different. I let go of being the ONLY one to do tasks and Sandy lets go having to feel productive every second of the day. We also discuss my F-word habit, feeling good enough as we are, what loss, grief and forgiveness can teach us and what other lessons our lives have been teaching us lately. I'm on call for jury duty next week, so I may not be able to blog or record. I'll keep you posted on CompulsiveOvereatingDiary.com Happy Birthday Sandy!
  • Ep 0108 – It’s All About Those BCs!
It's a blustery day on the mountain, and despite the wind, today's show is all about the BCs! After I let go of the idea of trying and embrace the idea of being, I welcome a record number of new brave companions - Chelsea, Dave and his wife, Jo, Nola from Alberta, Rachel from Sydney, Justine and Devon. I thank Nola for her 5 star review on iTunes Canada. We catch up with a few BCs we haven't heard from for awhile, including Happy who has questions for us about binge durations and what we think of Brain Over Binge by Kathryn Hansen. We also hear from Lisa, Maria from a Spanish Speaking country and my in person BC pal, Sandy. We celebrate the bravery of BC Carol from Detroit for posting her story on Who are the Brave Companions. We also feature comments on that story by Dawny and Sue from the UK. Amy from WI shares why I asked for prayers for her last show and Stéfanie from Quebec tells us why she's been quiet of late.
  • Ep 0107 – Bonus – You Don’t Need to Justify Your Heart
I let go of having to justify to myself or others what I want. I ponder my next steps in voice acting and the results of last week's big binge. Featured comments by Cheryl and Dawny. Please keep Amy from Wisconsin and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
  • Ep 0106 – Worst Binge in Years! What could have caused this Robot Alien Devastation?
Following the worst binge I've had since I began this show, I walk in my local park and talk out my emotions. I advise skipping the letting go segment today if you are already in an iffy mood. It is ironic that when I gave my binge recovery tips on Day 103 I hadn't HAD a binge myself for months, and truthfully, I had forgotten the hurricane force of this type of binge. I can't even call it a visit from the robot aliens, but rather, a full on invasion. Sigh. We welcome new BCs Paula from FB and Phoebe who goes on the BRAVERY Report for saying Hello to us on that very same Bravery Report! Dawny and Patt step in to represent the kindness of BCs by greeting Phoebe right away. Cheryl sends us her audio answer to Stéfanie's question about vanity from Day 105 and I'm pleased as punch that today we have two, count them two, foolish funners! (Thanks Cheryl and Dawny). Then I wrap up the show by reading part of the recent blog post that highlights a possible major player in my binge and some of the many supportive comments I received on it. Featured are comments from Cassie, Amy from WI and Stéfanie from Quebec.
