I reflect back on the path this Thanksgiving – pretty good metaphor, eh?

I’m Thankful for…

  • My hubby Mark. Sometimes I think we COULD NOT be more opposite in temperament, timing, wishes, life goals. But somehow we’ve made it work for more than 20 years together. I love you, Honey. Sometimes what you think you want isn’t what you actually need, and I guess we’ve proven that. xoxoxox

Here’s a link to a short video of Mark riding to the sunset

  • My Cuddly co-editor and sweety cat-boy, Tiger. He came into our lives by accident, and now I can’t imagine a life without him. Sometimes good things happen when you least expect them. xoxoxoxox

    Tiger asleep on the table

I’m so grateful that the culprit, Tiger the Cat came home. I was so scared I’d lost him, that I didn’t even have the heart to boot him off the table.

  • My gentle and sweet Gracie. She had such a hard time accepting love, but she did it. Sometimes we need to be patient with ourselves and others to let love into our lives. xoxoxoxox

The beautiful, gentle Gracie, Tiger’s mama. She proves that life can get better if you are patient and persistent.

  • You, my Brave Companion. Without all of your thoughts, calls, fun, heartbreak, food for thought, robot aliens, laughter and all that we’ve shared in the 42 weeks, 3 Days since I began this experiment…I don’t think I could say today, I don’t even want to head for the chips. Sometimes you need authentic friends in your life to help you accept yourself and grow toward your dreams. Thank you. xoxoxox

Happy Thanksgiving! Listened to the last podcast but haven’t had a minute to sit down and comment. Just taking my pies out of the oven and his lordship’s getting ready to stick the turkey in. Hope your dinner at the restaurant is great. THAT’S what I wanted to do this year. I am very fond of the Christmas dinner at the Chinese restaurant scene in A Christmas Story! The one with the smiling duck!

So grateful you two are a part of my life! Hugs to you both.

    Love,
    Cheryl

I LOVE that scene too! And I love going out for Thanksgiving. Christmas Eve, I like at home (we always celebrated Christmas Eve as a bigger deal and we got the toys at night, Christmas just meant church LOL), but I never, ever wanted to cook Thanksgiving, so I never have. Mark usually cooks that dinner, and this year, due to some injuries, he’s just not up to it. So that played in nicely with our wish to get some more beach riding in. Hope you had a lovely dinner, even if it wasn’t Peking Duck. xoxoxoxox

(I thought I posted? Guess not! Take 2)

Happy thanksgiving bc’s. In canada we have thanksgiving but it’s nothing compared to the states, at least where I am from! To what I see on IG, americans feast and reunite in a big way! I think ours is in october and is much quieter and not commercial at all.

Great title for this post indeed Laurie

I thought you had Thanksgiving mom amie, so thanks for clarifying that. Yep, down here it’s a big time family reunion, STUFF YOURSELF (as well as the turkey) and football watching national holiday extravaganza. I prefer a more quiet version. My friend Marie, who was away from her family back east while she lived out here and worked at the same company as I did, spent most holidays she didn’t fly home with us. And she and I would go hiking while Mark cooked the dinner. Then we would watch a Christmas movie on TV and have a glass of wine to open our holiday tradition. So it was fun to make a new beach/bike tradition with Mark this year. Though I don’t know if it will stick. I really miss Marie on holidays, so it is great to spend a few minutes with you new friends today. xoxoxox

    Hi Laurie,
Happy Black Friday (I didn’t get online yesterday)! I’m staying as far away from stores as possible today. I’m sewing and cleaning in preparation for decorating, which sounds much better than fighting crowds!

I wanted to share that I had a 100% binge free Thanksgiving, which feels amazing. I ate a normal breakfast, had a snack before I went over to my mom’s, enjoyed visiting with relatives and helping with preparations. When it was time to eat, I wasn’t the first in line, and filled my plate with reasonable portions of delicious food. I went back for seconds of my favorites, acknowledging that I wasn’t hungry but that this IS my favorite food, and later on had one slice of an apple cake that was delish! And then, that was it. I didn’t eat for the rest of the day because I wasn’t hungry. I didn’t think about food, I didn’t obsess about food…..I felt like a “normal” person. What a relief! I could tell I felt different going into this Thanksgiving, but I can’t quite say why. I knew that I wasn’t going to track food yesterday, and told myself to enjoy the food and the people and no worry about it, and that is exactly what I did. Yay!

Thanks for being someone I can share my victory with. Not everyone would understand how great this feels, but I think you and the BCs do!

    Have a great day….~Amy

You know, Amy, that’s exactly what the nutritionist told his lordship to do when he visited her last week. He’s having trouble getting his sugar down after being diabetic for ten years, but she said it wasn’t logical to expect someone to be around their favorite foods on Thanksgiving and Christmas and not imbibe. And you know what happened? Exactly the same as with you! Seems like once he knew he had her blessing to make his own decisions about what he wanted to eat, the food robot didn’t come around screaming “Danger, Will Robinson!”

It’s more a learning experience than anything, isn’t it… Congratulations on your great day! You need to go put yourself on the bravery report, girl! And GLAD you’re not going shopping! Stay at home and bask in the victory!

Hooray Amy! That is so awesome. Those kinds of days are exactly what I cherish about learning more about when I’m hungry, truly desiring delicious food, or using food as an emotional crutch in some way. I think as you wrote last time, that just because you aren’t going full on 100% Intuitive Eating at the moment doesn’t mean that you aren’t using the principles you’ve discovered to improve your relationships. And as you’ve written here, the relationships with people somehow take on higher priority when food falls back to being fuel or a moment of savory deliciousness. And Cheryl is right! This is a HUGE achievement and would be a fine time to but yourself on the bravery report.

PS, I know for some people Black Friday is the highlight of the year, but I too won’t go near a mall or store today. I can’t conceive of the crowds and bargain fighting that goes on as fun. Non-US BCs, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving where now it’s traditional for stores to have HUGE savings and door busting sales to open the Christmas shopping season. Many stores open at midnight the night before, and people even camp and wait in line for the best deals. It’s a madhouse! One of my friends with her daughters do this EVERY YEAR! It’s a big bonding event and fun for them. So, as we say, everyone has his or her own path to happiness. That one is surely not mine. xoxoxoxoxo Amy and a another BIG HOORAY for your wonderful Thanksgiving report.
