I asked Fionna to write this song as a way to celebrate our bravery. This version of it was used as part of our big celebration show on Day 100. The “Brave Companions” are the show’s listeners and those who participate by commenting here or who send in audio to be used in the show. BCs are a supportive audience of people all around the world, and luckily for us, Fionna is a BC too! This version was recorded with help from Fionna’s sister, Annie.

Lyrics

The Brave Companion Song
by Fionna Lane

Verse 1:
You and me on the road who knows where
You and me need the wind at our backs
Need a friend just to find some comfort on the journey
In my head it can get so lonely
Look around and I’m not alone
Found someone, found a brave companion
A true friend I can call my own

Chorus:
Sing a song of the Brave Companions
Sing a song of friends new and old
You listen to my hopes and fears
And let me know I’m not alone

Verse 2:
Trying hard just to be authentic
All this fear and it’s hard to be me
Could shut up but hey, that’s pathetic
I wanna live a life that’s free!

(Chorus)

Bridge:
Well hello all you brave companions
Hello all across the world
What we’re going through is hard to do
And we deserve to be heard

(Chorus)

Sing a song of the brave companions
Let you know that I really care
You listen to my hopes and fears
It helps me just to know you’re there.

BTW to save a copy of the song for yourself, please know the download link right below the player seems weird – it comes as part of my podcasting system and not from me – if you just click on it, it DOESN’T download the file – wah??? BUT if you right-click (or Mac folk Control_Click) the download link and chose , Download linked file as…. or Save linked file as… then it downloads the file. Enjoy! – LW

On a hot blustery day, I finish the second half of the show at the Top Zen place hoping for shade and a little less wind.

Podcast Recap

It’s a blustery day on the mountain, and despite the wind, today’s show is all about the BCs! After I let go of the idea of trying and embrace the idea of being, I welcome a record number of new brave companions – Chelsea, Dave and his wife, Jo, Nola from Alberta, Rachel from Sydney, Justine and Devon. I thank Nola for her 5 star review on iTunes Canada. We catch up with a few BCs we haven’t heard from for awhile, including Happy who has questions for us about binge durations and what we think of Brain Over Binge by Kathryn Hansen. We also hear from Lisa, Maria from a Spanish Speaking country and my in person BC pal, Sandy. We celebrate the bravery of BC Carol from Detroit for posting her story on Who are the Brave Companions. We also feature comments on that story by Dawny and Sue from the UK. Amy from WI shares why I asked for prayers for her last show and Stéfanie from Quebec tells us why she’s been quiet of late.

Laurie in her red hiking scarf in front of the trail

I start the show at my usual Next to Top Zen place – but the wind and the sun get to be too much for me and so I move.

Blue skies, puffy white clouds and stark foothills

It is a gorgeous day for hiking up the mountain.

Laurie smiling as she takes a selfie in her mirror wearing blue shorts and a sleeveless striped tee.

Why this selfie? Because I feel good in my body today. Great sleep, no overeating lately, no restriction, starting to regain body balance.

At my local park I get mic-ed up, do a quick sound check, and then get ready to ‘Let er rip’ for the wild and woolly post binge ponder-fest of Day 106.

Podcast Recap

Following the worst binge I’ve had since I began this show, I walk in my local park and talk out my emotions. I advise skipping the letting go segment today if you are already in an iffy mood. It is ironic that when I gave my binge recovery tips on Day 103 I hadn’t HAD a binge myself for months, and truthfully, I had forgotten the hurricane force of this type of binge. I can’t even call it a visit from the robot aliens, but rather, a full on invasion. Sigh. We welcome new BCs Paula from FB and Phoebe who goes on the BRAVERY Report for saying Hello to us on that very same Bravery Report! Dawny and Patt step in to represent the kindness of BCs by greeting Phoebe right away. Cheryl sends us her audio answer to Stéfanie’s question about vanity from Day 105 and I’m pleased as punch that today we have two, count them two, foolish funners! (Thanks Cheryl and Dawny). Then I wrap up the show by reading part of the recent blog post that highlights a possible major player in my binge and some of the many supportive comments I received on it. Featured are comments from Cassie, Amy from WI and Stéfanie from Quebec.

Podcast Recap

Critical judgement of myself and others is what I need to let go of as I ponder on the mountain. Please send prayers and positive vibes to Cheryl’s family. Welcome new BCs Carol from Detroit who goes on the bravery report for reaching out and Colleen who gives her reaction to the beauty of the quilt Amy from Wisconsin made me. More comments about Amy’s quilt from Suz, Sue from the UK, Stefanie from Quebec and Amy herself! Stefanie from Quebec asks for our opinions on vanity when setting our body goals. A Shout out to our missing BC, Happy. A comment conversation with these same BCs and Dawny about bingeing, food tracking and how we feel about ourselves. The unknown Foolish Funner brightens our day with a new chuckle and I wrap up the show with my thoughts on ‘What is enough?’
